Event: Shigeto with Beacon, Nitemoves
Date: October 4, 2013
Location: Echoplex

Zachary Saginaw, Ann Arbor based musician who goes by his middle name Shigeto, takes jazz and motown influences and infuses heavy drum beats with IDM (intelligent dance music) elements for some sweet instrumental hip hop. With the release of his newest album, No Better Time Than Now, Shigeto, alongside Beacon and Nitemoves, set out on a Ghostly International North American tour and dropped by the Echoplex last week.

My. Mind. Was. Blown.

If you don’t know much about Shigeto’s musical background, just like myself (pre-mind-blown-experience), he picked up the drums at an early age and took on a fascination with electronic music after studying jazz in NYC and London. Fusing those two together, he becomes more than just a producer and played more than just a DJ set. He laid down layers of samples and tracks then hopped on his drum kit, went hard and shredded. The Echoplex became an atmosphere of beats on beats, mesmerizing enough for me to lose interest in snapping photos and just vibing hard. Come back soon, pls <3
